Presentation
The I SciELO Network Regional Meeting will be held on 3 October
2002, in Valparaiso, Chile, as a part of the International Conference
on Scientific Electronic Publishing in Developing Countries (ICSEP).
SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online is a model for cooperative
electronic publishing of scientific journals on the Internet, especially
conceived to meet the scientific communication needs of developing
countries, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides
an efficient way to assure universal visibility and accessibility
to their scientific literature, including integrated procedures
for the measurement of usage and impact of scientific journals.
SciELO sites are being developed in Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Costa
Rica, Venezuela and Spain and also in thematic areas such as Public
Health (http://www.scielo.org).
The Meeting aims to gather representatives of the network of SciELO
sites and all interested parties to discuss the role of SciELO methodology
as model for electronic publication of scientific communication
in the developing countries, presenting aspects of its current and
future implementation, among other subjects related to the evaluation
of the scientific output of these countries.
The participation is open to all ICSEP participants. The official
language of the meeting is Spanish.
